Project Aims
People’s Experiences of Feeding Back their Experiences of Healthcare Services
We are looking for a small number of people with experience or an interest in community research and with “good community connections” to work with us in getting people to complete a survey – we will be able to remunerate people for their time on this project. We are looking for people to support us in going to community groups to complete this survey.
This is a survey that looks at people’s experiences of giving feedback to healthcare services after care has gone wrong. This might include things like treatments or procedures that went wrong, missed or delayed diagnosis or treatment, or medicine errors. There may be other examples.
We want to find out about people who don’t give feedback when things go wrong to understand why they haven’t given feedback (reasons might include that they didn’t know how to, didn’t see the point, didn’t have time etc) and we also want to know a little bit more about them. What their background is and we explain below why we want to know this information.
For people who do provide feedback, we want to know why they did it, how they did it, what happened and what difference it made. Like the people who didn’t provide feedback, we also want to know about their backgrounds.
We already know that certain groups of people (e.g. minoritised communities, those less well-off) are more likely to be harmed in healthcare but… are they also less likely to provide feedback when things go wrong in their care? We want people from all backgrounds to have the same opportunities to have their voices heard. This survey will help us understand the challenges to providing feedback so that feedback services can be improved.
